Recipe for Life
“Man shall not live by
bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
I have always said it is not about what you are eating but
what is eating you. Therefore my main focus is to help you change the way you
think about eating. We first need to fix our mind and soul then our bodies will
follow. In time you will be able to differentiate between physical and
emotional hunger. Daily devotional and Bible reading will also help you to know
God better and His desire for your life. You are becoming more God reliant, not
self-reliant; allowing His Holy Spirit to help you to make better food choices.
“And I will ask the Father, and He will
give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” John 14:16
We eat when we are happy, sad, angry, bored and often for
comfort. Most of what Americans do revolves around food. We are constantly bombarded by food
advertisements. We need to learn to
trust our own body’s messages and eat only with physical hunger, not because of
external cues. When we eat to satisfy
physical hunger, we limit how much we eat.
However, when we eat to satisfy emotional hunger we can never eat
enough. “You can’t get enough of what
you don’t need.” We need to get more
satisfaction out of less food.
One of the most important things you can do is eat small
amounts more often. Not only will it
increase your metabolism but it also will take away the mental obsession with
food. It does this by taking the
emphasis off the forbidden. When something is forbidden it is all we can think
about. Most people can deny themselves favorite foods and stave off hunger
signals temporarily but not long term.
This has to become a way of life not a diet. Deprivation causes binging. We also need to
ask ourselves what we truly want when we are not hungry. Try to always include
a source of protein when you do eat.
Make sure you drink adequate water.
What are you really Hungry for? Start keeping a journal of what you are feeling.
“There are many in the
world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a
little love.” Mother Teresa
